Art & Music Festival – Call for Entries
May 16 – 18, 2025 Red Apple Farm & Brew Barn 455 Highland Avenue, Phillipston, MA
Deadline to Enter: Saturday, May 3rd Opening Reception Fri. May 16, 6 – 9 (Art Awards 7)
Two options for entering the show:
- Option 1: Register with GALA
- Paper Entry Form. A PDF Call for Entries which includes a form that you print & mail with payment to GALA. Please allow enough time for mailing so that your entry is received by the deadline.
- Entry Deadline: Saturday, May 3
- Art Drop-Off at Red Apple Farm, in the Brew Barn: Tuesday, May 13 4:00 – 6:00 pm
- Opening Reception: Friday, May 16, 6:00 – 9:00 Awards 7 PM

* Important Note * Please be sure to drop-off your artwork on Tuesday, May 13th between 4 – 6 pm in the Brew Barn. If we do not receive your artwork by 6 pm, we may not be able to include it in the judging.

Greeting Card Class – Repurpose Old Cards & Photos
Old Murdock Building (COA), 1st Floor, 52 Murdock Ave, Winchendon
Bring in your old cards, calendar pages, other cool cards, old photos. Card blank sizes you will be given: plain 5×7 and bordered 4×6. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to see what you can come up with! Don’t rule anything out! Just make sure you can cut out what you want to use! Be prepared to play!

Watercolor Class – The Fleeting Human Figure
Old Murdock Building (COA), 1st Floor, 52 Murdock Ave, Winchendon
Learn how and why to incorporate human figures into your watercolor paintings!
Many artists become overwhelmed with the idea of including people or animals in their paintings! This can be simplified with watercolors and is invaluable to establishing scale, interest, and aids composition elements in your work.
We’ll learn proportions and beginner techniques that are simple and focus on including fleeting “forms” and “mud people”.
All supplies are provided, or feel free to bring your own. No experience is necessary. All levels are welcomed to attend. Come join us, and bring a friend for this fun, low-key approach to watercolor.

Art Critiques
All dates will be at the Old Murdock School, 52 Murdock Avenue, Winchendon MA. Enter the side door, on the 1st floor take the elevator that is to your right to the 3rd floor.
You may bring snacks to share with the group.
Bring up to 2 pieces of your artwork (finished or unfinished) to share with the group & bring your finished Mystery Art Challenge piece if you completed one. You may bring your art challenge piece to share at any future critique.
The first 15 minutes we will be networking, then we will go into discussing our artwork. You may attend even though you didn’t bring any artwork, feel free to join us.
Free to all GALA members. New artists, first 2 classes are free.
A great way to receive heartfelt feedback from your circle of artists friends.

Pastels, Painting Animals – A special 3 week session
Old Murdock Building (COA), 1st Floor, 52 Murdock Ave, Winchendon
All levels and beginners are welcome!
At the first class, Maryann will cover the basics of pastels: Soft pastels, different brands, soft pastels vs hard pastels, as well as pan pastels and pastel pencils. Next, she will speak about different pastel papers and surfaces. She will then do a brief 10-minute demonstration. The remaining class time will be spent drawing or transferring the subject matter onto the black sanded paper then blocking in the first layer of pastel.
The remaining two classes will consist of a half-hour demonstration followed by painting time and teacher guidance.
A materials list will be supplied along with a photo reference that she will be using for her demonstration. You may follow along with her or bring your own photo reference (Note: if Maryann’s reference photo is used, you may give away your painting but it cannot be for sale as it is her composition and reference material). Print-out, laptop, or tablets may be used for your own reference photos.
Maryann has achieved her Master Pastelist title with the Pastel Society of America and her Master Circle designation with the International Association of Pastel Societies.
Note: there is a 5-student minimum/12-student maximum
Sign up early to make certain that there’s enough enrollment to run the class. Once you Register, we will email you the materials List that you will need for class. Black sanded paper will be available during class for $5/sheet.

Calling All Guitar & Piano Teachers and Students
GALA is looking for guitar and piano teachers to provide private lessons to students. Lessons will be held at the Old Murdock School in Winchendon.
Students may be of any age or level of experience. If you are interested in teaching, or would like to have lessons, please fill out this online form and provide your information.
