Artist Statement

Life to me, is beautiful and full of surprises. Perhaps that is why I subconsciously chose the flower to portray life. Each blossom is unique and beautiful in its’ own right. The way light passes through each flower, creating shadows within, is most inspiring. For this reason, I use only transparent watercolors, building up glazes slowly, which allows the viewer a feeling of translucence. Using the white of the paper, affords me the challenge of playing off of this white with darker hues. With each curve or twist of the petal, I am reminded that each blossom is one of a kind, and is a reflection of the uniqueness of life itself. By painting the flower larger than life, I hope to share my joy and wonder in God’s creations.
