Artist Statement

Jan is a self-taught quilt artist specializing in fabric portraits of animals and unique art quilts. Her love of animals started her on this road, creating animal quilts depicting her own beloved rescued pets.

Although Jan also makes traditional quilts, she prefers to design her own creations or create custom portraits for clients, using their photos as a guide.

Jan has won awards in both art shows and quilt shows, and her work has been featured in the Boston Globe, Bark magazine, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, the Gardner News, and in the book “Unbelievably Good Deals and Great Adventures That You Absolutely Can’t Get Unless You’re A Dog”. Jan also appeared on several cable TV shows with her quilts.

Jan has had several solo exhibits at art studios, quilt shops, libraries and restaurants. She teaches in her home studio in Hubbardston, where students come from surrounding towns and states to recreate images of their pets into quilts and pillows. She is an Associate Artist at The Brush Gallery in Lowell, a member of New England Arts for Animals (NEAFA), the Gardner Area League of Artists (GALA), and the Material Girls Quilt Guild. Jan conducts workshops for members of quilt guilds, and gives presentations of her work to guilds and other organizations. She is proud to donate her work to many animal rescue organizations, and the NEADS service dog organization in Princeton, MA.
