Recently, I picked up my pencils again after 20+ years. During this hiatus, I was fortunate to work as a photographer at The Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Even though I had studied at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, the daily exposure to the world’s great art that I experienced as a working photographer at the MFA was priceless. It was an education that I could not have received anywhere else.
In the past I had worked only in graphite pencil. With this recent venture in creativity, I have discovered new inspiration in the form of colored pencils. In addition to providing all the possibilities of color, they also allow the precise control that is important in the realistic style that I prefer.
I try to be open-minded when it comes to choosing subjects; however, elements from nature will usually be included. This could be in the form of a floral arrangement or a structure set within a landscape.
